Host FAQs

What is Local Class Co?

Local Class Co is a platform that helps local teachers and creators run in-person classes without the stress of managing registrations, payments, or student communication.

We make it easy for people in your community to discover and book your classes, while you focus on teaching.

Who can host a class?

All instructors are reviewed before their first class is published. We look for clear, well-described classes that are safe, appropriate for the community, and aligned with our mission of accessible local learning. We welcome instructors across many fields, including (but not limited to):

  • Visual arts (painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking)

  • Crafts and DIY workshops

  • Wellness and movement (yoga, breathwork, dance)

  • Cooking, baking, and food skills

  • Music, performance, and creative writing

  • Any skill you want to share locally

If you can teach it in person, you can likely host it here.

How do I get paid?

You set the price for your class.

When a student books your class:

  • Local Class Co collects the payment

  • After your class runs, we release your earnings to you

You are paid for every enrolled student who attends your class.

What fees does Local Class Co charge?

Local Class Co takes a 15% service fee from each booking.

This covers:

  • Online registration system

  • Payment processing

  • Automated confirmations and reminders

  • Student booking management

  • Platform maintenance and support

  • Local discovery and marketing

You keep the remaining 85%.

Why do you charge a percentage instead of a flat fee?

We use a percentage model so:

  • you only pay when you earn

  • there are no upfront costs

  • your risk is low when testing new classes

If your class doesn’t fill, you don’t owe anything.

Do I need my own website or booking system?

No.

We provide everything you need to accept registrations and payments online.

You can simply share your class description.

Can I set my own schedule and pricing?

Yes.

You fully control:

  • Class price

  • Class size

  • Duration

  • Location

  • Materials fee (if any)

We never set your pricing.

How do students find my class?

We help students discover classes through:

  • Our website listings

  • Email newsletters

  • Local community promotion

  • Social media features (as we grow)

You can also share your class link directly.

What if my class doesn’t fill?

You are never penalized for low enrollment.

You can:

  • adjust your pricing

  • change your class description

  • reschedule

  • or cancel if needed (with clear notice to students)

We’re here to help you fill seats, not lock you into risk.

Do I need to be a licensed teacher or certified instructor?

No formal certification is required.

However, we expect all instructors to:

  • be knowledgeable in their subject

  • have prior teaching experience

  • create a safe, respectful learning environment

  • clearly describe their class offering

Where do classes take place?

Classes can take place at:

  • your own studio

  • community spaces

  • rented venues

  • pop-up locations

We also help promote classes at shared or partner spaces when available.

What happens if a student cancels?

Cancellation policies are set per class, but generally:

  • Students can cancel within your listed cancellation window

  • Refunds are processed through the platform

  • You are notified of all changes automatically

We recommend setting a clear cancellation policy for each class.

How do I communicate with students?

All student communication is handled through the platform, including:

  • booking confirmations

  • reminders

  • updates or schedule changes

You can also message students directly when needed.

When do I receive my payout?

Payouts are processed after your class takes place.

This ensures:

  • accurate attendance tracking

  • smooth refund handling if needed

Can I offer multiple classes?

Yes.

You can list:

  • one-time workshops

  • recurring classes

  • multi-session series

  • seasonal offerings

What makes a successful class on Local Class Co?

Classes tend to perform best when they:

  • have a clear outcome (“Learn watercolor basics in 2 hours”)

  • are beginner-friendly or welcoming to all levels

  • include a specific project or takeaway

  • are described simply and visually

We can also help you refine your class listing if needed.

I’m not great at marketing. Can you help?

Yes.

We help improve visibility by:

  • featuring select classes

  • highlighting new instructors

  • sharing on our channels

  • giving feedback on your class description

You don’t need to be a marketer—we help with that part.

What if I just want to try one class first?

That’s encouraged.

You can start with a single class and expand once you feel comfortable.

How do I get started?

To host a class:

  1. Submit your class idea

  2. We review and help you set it up

  3. Your listing goes live

  4. Students begin booking

It’s designed to be simple and fast.
